Turn-Key Digital Solutions

Who

techtom.net is the home of Tom Hill, a UK-based independent Enterprise and Solution Architect with more than 20 years of experience working across architecture, networking, Microsoft technologies, automation and emerging technologies.

Tom enjoys solving problems. Sometimes that means designing enterprise-scale solutions. Sometimes it means connecting systems together, automating repetitive tasks, exploring practical uses of AI, or helping organisations make better use of technology they already own.

His approach combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. Rather than recommending technology for its own sake, Tom focuses on understanding the real problem, testing ideas quickly and delivering solutions that are practical, supportable and genuinely useful.

What

Technology should help people get things done, not create additional complexity.

Tom works with organisations to identify opportunities for improvement, simplify processes and make better use of technology. This might involve designing new solutions, connecting existing systems, introducing automation or exploring practical applications of AI.

Typical areas of work include:

  • Microsoft 365 optimisation and modern workplace enablement
  • Microsoft Copilot, generative AI and large language model (LLM) adoption
  • Enterprise and solution architecture for new and existing services
  • Rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development
  • Workflow automation, systems integration and API connectivity
  • Power Platform solutions using Power Apps and Power Automate
  • Cloud and hybrid architecture
  • Smart home, energy and IoT integration using Home Assistant and related platforms

Whether the requirement is strategic architecture, a technical proof-of-concept, an automation challenge or a complex integration, the objective remains the same: deliver practical, maintainable solutions that solve real problems and provide lasting value.

How

My approach is simple: understand the problem before reaching for the technology.

Over the last 20 years I've worked across solution architecture, enterprise architecture, networking, Microsoft 365, licensing, supplier management, automation and AI. That experience has taught me that the best solutions are rarely the most complicated ones.

I work directly with clients to understand what's really causing friction, whether that's repetitive manual tasks, disconnected systems, poor processes, uncertainty about technology choices, or simply not getting the best value from existing investments.

Once we've identified the root cause, I design practical solutions that fit the organisation rather than forcing the organisation to fit the technology. That could mean introducing automation, connecting systems together, improving Microsoft 365, exploring AI, designing architecture, or sometimes recommending that nothing new is needed at all.

The measure of success isn't how much technology gets deployed; it's whether people find their work easier, faster and more effective afterwards.

Feedback

“One of the most helpful things was how quickly everything was made to work in practice, not just in theory. The support made a real difference to how we use our systems day to day.”
